James Malton’s ‘Dublin Views’ recreates the architecture and the lifestyle of Dublin in the final decade of the eighteenth century. A period when the city was one of the most splendid in Europe and its buildings and prospects so impressed the English draughtsman James Malton that he wrote in the prospectus to his work ‘Views of profit have been but a secondary consideration in the conduct of this work: Mr. Malton was struck with admiration at the beauty of the capital of Ireland, and was desirous to make a display of it to the World’.
