Saorstát Éireann, the Irish Free State Official Handbook published in 1932, was a luxurious yearbook celebrating the achievements of the state since its foundation, and the most famous publication of the Talbot Press. Art O’Murnaghan’s (1875-1954) Celtic Revival style cover design combines bright modern colours with the tradition of early Irish illuminated manuscript calligraphy, exemplified by the Book of Kells.
