“Those were quickie books, written for very respectable English publishers. I was offered a lot of money to write some funny, sexy books about London cab drivers. They were fun books, but not really dirty. When you read these titles (The Cabfather, The Virgin Cabbies, Midnight Cabbie) you know they are intended to be funny, with sex running second to the comedy inherent in the very titles. They were seen as soft porn back in the ‘70s, but now they would be perceived as light comedy!”
