The twelfth edition of acclaimed fanzine comes as a deluxe hardback book and CD of rare solo tracks.
If you want to know how deep the love is for Pennsylvania folk-singer Michael Hurley, visit bluenavigator.com where you’ll find a fanzine that has been running for 30 years, dedicated solely to news, interviews and esoterica about the artist known to devotees as Snock. Its publication is, however, intermittent, and they’ve only just arrived at issue 12. Luckily for you, it’s a deluxe hardback book which includes numerous articles about Hurley’s 1980s plus this gorgeous acoustic CD, lushly remastered from a 1984 soundtrack for a schools documentary on Long Island clam fishermen (!). An intimate mix of songs and spontaneous instrumentals, it includes Hurley’s gorgeous reworking of John Herald’s Up To My Neck In Muddy Water plus a forlorn song about a sandal-maker (Vinnie) that will make you want to subscribe to Blue Navigator immediately.
